PENSACOLA, Fla. – Columbus State University men's basketball traveled to Pensacola, Fla. for a clash at West Florida on Tuesday night.
The Cougars (5-1) moved into a three-game winning streak with the win over the Argonauts (1-4), defeating UWF with an 83-66 victory at the UWF Field House.
First Half
Both teams traded blows early and battled for lead position, switching control of the lead several times. West Florida held a four-point edge three times in the first few minutes of play with the last time being with a 12-8 lead with 14:33 to play.
A trey from
Rakeim Gary sparked an 11-2 run capped by back-to-back three-point buckets from
Jarrett Adderton to lift CSU into a 19-14 advantage with 10 minutes on the clock. UWF responded with a six-point spurt of scoring to reclaim a one-point lead. After some back-and-forth play over the next couple of minutes, West Florida held onto a 30-29 lead with less than four minutes to go.
Three-pointers from
Wisdom Uboh and Gary followed by a layup from
Kordell Brown swiftly changed the score in favor of the Cougars. CSU managed to close the half with momentum on their side, holding a 41-32 lead after the first 20 minutes of action.
Second Half
Adderton came out of the intermission with a long-range jumper to ignite a 10-2 run to open the second half, giving the Cougars a 51-34 lead. Columbus State would eventually build up to a 20-plus differential and would not relinquish that cushion until late in the half.
Adderton followed up his 18 points from his first 16 minutes on the court with 11 points in nearly 14 minutes of action in the second half. Columbus State bested West Florida 42-34 in the half to win with an 83-66 edge.
Inside the Numbers
- Columbus State finished shooting for season highs of 54.1% (33-of-61) from the field, 52.4% (11-of-21) from the three, and 85.7%% (6-of-7) from the foul line.
- Adderton led with 29 points and eight rebounds while adding four assists and a steal.
- Uboh notched 14 points while going 4-of-6 from three and totaling a team-leading five assists.
- Gary put together 11 points and two assists followed by Jehloni James' 11 points.
- CSU led 35-28 in rebounds and also led 16-11 in total assists.
