COLUMBUS – Columbus State University women's basketball traveled to Milledgeville, Ga. to take on Georgia College in the first Peach Belt Conference clash of the season.
The Lady Cougars (6-2, 1-0 PBC) snuck away from the Centennial Center with a narrow win over the Bobcats (6-3, 0-1 PBC), defeating GCSU 64-60.
First Quarter
Georgia College opened the game with a 9-2 run in the first three minutes of play. The Bobcats remained in control of the early lead and went on to close the first period out with an 18-11 lead.
Bre'lyn Snipes led CSU with four points followed by three from
Jasmine Rai Stevens.
Second Quarter
Columbus State picked it up in the second quarter, besting Georgia College 16-9 in the period. After opening with a 7-0 run to level the game at 18-18, the rest of the period would result in tight back and forth play. GCSU closed out the last few minutes with four points to lead 27-24 with 1:43 to play, however a trey from
Haelim Adle closed the period out with a 27-27 tie at the half.
Third Quarter
The Lady Cougars began with a 9-5 run in the first five minutes of action to lead 36-32 with
Olonna Rawls leading the run with four points. Both teams battled in tight scoring with CSU narrowly edging out GCSU 10-8 in the final five minutes. Adle led the final few minutes with four points followed by two points from
Sophia Williams,
Simone Lett, and Snipes. The Lady Cougars held onto a 46-40 lead with just 10 left to play in the game.
Fourth Quarter
Columbus State jumped out to a comfortable 52-40 lead with Rawls going on a six-point tear in the paint. Georgia College responded with a 19-7 surge over the next six or so minutes to eventually level the contest at 59-59 with 37 seconds remaining. Thankfully, five points from the foul line down the stretch helped to secure the 64-60 win for the Lady Cougars.

- The Lady Cougars finished shooting for 34.8% (24-of-69) from the field, 23.1% (6-of-26) from three, and 83.3% (10-of-12) from the foul line.
- Snipes led with 17 points and tallied seven rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
- Rawls scored 13 points, led with eight rebounds, three steals, adding an assist as well.
- GCSU won the rebounding battle 47-41.
- CSU's defense totaled 10 steals on 19 turnovers from GCSU, scoring 20 points off turnovers.
