Softball Drops Two at Cougar-Hurricane Classic

The Cougars lost 7-11 vs. West Florida and 9-11 vs. Tusculum.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team dropped two games on the first day of the Cougar-Hurricane Classic at Cougar Field. The Cougars lost 7-11 to West Florida and 9-11 to Tusculum (8 innings) in the nightcap. CSU is now 4-8 on the season.

Game 1: CSU 7 UWF 11
  • UWF and CSU both scored one run in the first, but UWF took the lead in the second after scoring two runs
  • The Cougars tied the game in the fourth thanks to an RBI double from Madison McDonald and an RBI single from Grace Kiser
  • The Argonauts tallied two more runs in the fifth, but CSU answered with three from an RBI double by Lindsey Patton and a two-run home run by Kenzie Bayer
  • West Florida scored three more runs in the sixth and seventh to get 11 runs, but CSU was only able to add one more off of an RBI single from Katelyn Cooper
  • Patton led the offense with two hits
Game 2: CSU 9 TU 11
  • TU scored 3 runs in the first but CSU answered with two thanks to RBI singles from Kristen Odum and Nova Wright
  • Odum tied the game off of an RBI double in the second
  • In the fourth, the Cougars tallied six runs from two home runs from Madison McDonald (two-run) and Holly Lynn (four-run)
  • The Pioneers scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and two more in the eighth to secure the victory
  • Odum led CSU going 4-for-5 at the plate
Columbus State will play two more games on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Cougar Field.
