COLUMBUS - The Columbus State softball team went 1-1 on the final day of the Cougar-Hurricane Classic, losing to Newberry 11-4 in the first game and winning 18-1 against Point in the nightcap. The Cougars now post a 5-9 record.

Game 1: CSU 4 NC 11

• CSU got an early 3-0 lead in the third inning thanks to two singles from Kristen Odum (2RBI) and Katelyn Cooper (RBI)
• Newberry scored seven runs in the fifth inning off of six hits and one error
• NC made it 8-3 in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle
• The Cougars scored another run in the bottom of the sixth off of a Kara Wegienka RBI single to center field
• The Wolves added three more runs in the seventh off of two errors and one hit
• Newberry tallied 12 hits while CSU had 11
• Lindsey Patton led CSU with two hits and Khloe Shears collected the loss inside the circle

Game 2: CSU 18 PU 1 (5 innings)

• Point scored the only run in the first inning off of a RBI single to left field
• CSU scored one run in the first, five in the second, three in the third and nine in the fourth
• Ansley Collins hit two doubles and Gracyn Gurley had one double
• Mary-Catherine Sorrell, Anna Waites and Brooke Thompson each hit a home run
• Sorrell led CSU with three hits 
• Jessica Lopez earned the win inside the circle
• CSU tallied 15 hits

CSU will travel to Americus, Ga. on Friday, Feb. 23 to play Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia Southwestern for a three-game series.
