COLUMBUS - The Columbus State baseball team defeated No. 16 Young Harris 9-5 Sunday afternoon at Ragsdale Field. With the win, the Cougars are 4-7 and gave the Mountain Lions their first loss of the year.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, CSU answered with three runs in the next half inning to take a 3-1 lead thanks to a RBI double from
Win Johns and a two-run RBI single from
Jackson Chizek.
CSU added two more runs in the third with a two-run RBI from
Isaiah Hernandez and another run in the fourth from a RBI ground out from
Cody Ferguson, scoring
Ian King.Â
Young Harris scored two runs in the sixth, making it a 6-3 ball game, but
Derek Wylie jacked a solo home run in the seventh to extend CSU's lead to 7-3. The Mountain tried to battle back in the eighth, scoring two runs off of two RBI singles, but
Colby Brabston ripped a two-run RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-5.
Brabston and Johns both finished with three hits.
Trace Goforth collected the win on the mound after 5.0 innings pitched, striking out six.

Columbus State will host Quincy University for a three-game series from Feb. 22-24 at Ragsdale Field.
