ROME, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team swept Shorter University Tuesday evening on the road 14-4 and 6-3. With the two wins, the Cougars improve to 10-9 overall.
Game 1: CSU 14 SU 4
- After being down 4-0 the Cougars had big fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-4 lead over the Hawks
- In the fourth, Laura Harris singled to center field to put CSU on board and Kenzie Bayer smacked a three-run home run to tie the game at four
- CSU tallied three more runs in the fifth thanks to another RBI single from Harris and scored later in the inning off of an error
- The Cougars scored another run in the sixth from a Lindsey Patton RBI singleÂ
- Columbus State racked on six more runs in the seventh thanks to a Wright two-run home run, a Gracyn Gurley two-run RBI single and an Anna Waites two-run RBI double
- The Cougars collected 16 hits and Kenzie Bayer led the team with three
- Julianna Franklin earned the win inside the circle coming into the game in relief and pitching 5.0 innings and striking out three
Game 2: CSU 6 SU 3
- Brooke Miller hit a two-run homer in the first inning to put the Cougars up 2-0
- Shorter put one run on the board in the third from a RBI single
- In the fifth, Bayer singled through the left side, plating Waites
- Waites made it a 6-1 ball game in the sixth after smacking a three-run homer to left field
- Jessica Lopez received the win after 4.0 innings pitched, striking out four and allowing three hits. She is now 4-1

Columbus State will host a Peach Belt Conference series against Georgia College & State University with two games on Saturday, March 2, starting at 1 p.m., the second game following, and one game on Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m.
