COLUMBUS -  On Wednesday afternoon, the Columbus State University softball team dropped both games to Emmanuel University (Ga.) in their home opener. With the two losses, Columbus State falls to 2-4 overall, and Emmanuel improves to 3-2. 

GAME ONE
Columbus State 1, Emmanuel University 9

As a team, Columbus State only had three hits compared to Emmanuel's 10. Caitlyn Canady led the team, going 3-for-2 at the plate and being the lone run scored by Ansley Collins. 

In the circle, Haylee Folds collected her first loss of the season, dropping to 2-1 after giving up ten hits and throwing only one strikeout. M. Edwards receives the win for the Lions after giving up only three hits to a mighty offensive team and striking out five. 

GAME TWO
Columbus State 9, Emmanuel University 13

The second game was better offensively for Columbus State as they tallied 11 hits as a team. Holly Lynn was 4-for-2 at the plate with a two-run home run. Ansley Collins and Laura Harris each went 2-for-1 at the plate with two RBIs each. Kristen Odum and Brooke Miller also contributed to the scoring, driving in one RBI each. 

Freshman Khloe Shears earned her first season loss inside the circle after 2.0 innings pitched. I. Harrison for Emmanuel received her first win of the year after 5.0 innings pitched.

The Columbus State University softball team will be back in action on Cougar Field on Friday, Feb. 9, as they take on Lenoir-Rhyne University at 2:30 p.m. and Union University at 5 p.m. on the first day of the 2024 Red-White-Blue Classic in Columbus, Ga.
