CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Columbus State men's and women's tennis teams both split matches on Sunday, March 10 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Both teams beat Drury University in the morning, but fell to Tennessee Wesleyan University in the afternoon.
No. 7 Men
Match 1: CSU 4 DU 1
The Cougars swept the doubles point to go up 1-0. In singles,
Daniel Hammond won in the second spot 7-5, 7-6,
Camilo Cano won playing in #4 6-1, 6-2, and
Andreas Sandrone won 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth spot. Drury got their only point in #3 singles.
Match 2: CSU 2 TWU 4
TWU's #1 and #3 doubles pairs beat the Cougars to earn the doubles point. In singles play, the only Cougars who won their matches were
Thomas Cardona in the first spot and
Daniel Hammond in the third. Cardona won 4-6, 6-2, 12-10, and Hammond won 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
No. 10 Women
Match 1: CSU 4 DU 0
The duos of
Mariana Ramirez and
Nikoline Gullacksen, and
Yelena Labat and
Isadora Oliveira won in doubles to give CSU the doubles point. Gullacksen,
Laura Pesickova and Oliveira all won their singles matches to end the match early, 4-0.Â
Match 2: CSU 3 TWU 4
TWU took the doubles point, winning in the #1 and #2 spots. In singles play, Ramirez won 6-0, 6-2 playing in the top spot, Gullacksen beat her opponent 6-1, 6-0 in the second spot, and Labat won 6-0, 6-4 in #6. TWU's #3, #4 and #5 players beat the Lady Cougars to complete the 4-3 win over CSU.
