Box Score 2 COLUMBUS - The Columbus State softball team split a doubleheader with Valdosta State University on Wednesday, March 13 at Cougar Field. The Cougars now post a 15-12 record.
Game 1: CSU 4 VSU 6
- VSU scored one run in the first inning after a bases loaded walk, but Nova Wright tied the game in the next half inning hitting a RBI single to center field to score Katelyn Cooper
- The Blazers scored three more runs in the third inning off a two-run home run and a throwing error by CSU
- Laura Harris hit a RBI single in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2 VSU
- Lindsey Patton put the Cougars within one run of the Blazers in the fourth, hitting a sac fly to left field, plating Caitlyn Canady
- Madison Norrell tied the game at four in the sixth inning thanks to a solo homer to left center field
- The Blazers hit two homers in the top of the seventh to take the 6-4 lead
- Gracyn Gurley received the loss inside the circle after 3.0 innings of work, and Canady and Cooper each led CSU with two hits
Game 2: CSU 9 VSU 8 (8 innings)
- With bases loaded, Brooke Miller hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Canady from third to give CSU a 1-0 lead
- The Blazers took a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning off of three hits and one error, two of those hits being home runs
- CSU took back the lead in the fifth, scoring seven runs off of five hits and one error, all with two outs. Wright hit a RBI single to left field and Miller followed up with a three-run bomb to put CSU within one run. Norrell then hit a pinch-hit three-run homer over the center field wall to give the Cougars an 8-6 lead
- VSU tied the game in the sixth thanks to a two-run RBI double
- In the eighth inning with two outs, Harris hit a walk-off RBI single up the middle to give the Cougars the 9-8 win
- Wright and Ansley Collins each collected two hits while Miller tallied four RBIs
- Julianna Franklin earned the win inside the circle after 4.0 innings and striking out four

Columbus State will host Augusta University for a PBC series starting Friday, March 15 at Cougar Field. The first pitch on Friday is set for 5 p.m.
