Softball Splits with No. 17 AUM

The Cougars split with the Warhawks on Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Field, losing game one 3-16 and winning game two 12-6.

COLUMBUS - Despite losing game one to the No. 17 Auburn University at Montgomery softball team, Columbus State bounced back to win game two, scoring 12 runs to secure a split on the day. After this doubleheader split, Columbus State stands at 19-13 overall, while the Warhawks move to 22-8.

Game One - CSU 3, AMU 16 (5 Inn.)

Auburn University Montgomery scored eight runs in the second and five in the third to build a sizable lead over Columbus State, which ended in the 16-3 run rule. 

Nova Wright led the Cougars at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and scoring one run herself. Brooke Miller (1-for-3) and Laura Harris (1-for-2) also drove in the only other runs of the game. 

Game Two - CSU 12, AUM 6

The Cougars dominated the second game of the day, scoring 12 runs on 12 hits and scoring at least one run in each inning except the bottom of the fourth. 

Jessica Lopez started in the circle for the Cougars, holding the No. 17 team to no hits or runs in the first and second innings. Julianna Franklin entered the game in the fourth inning and threw 3.2 innings with only one hit and no runs, collecting the win. She also grabbed four strikeouts.

Brooke Miller hit her 15 home run of the season, driving in three runs. Caitlyn Canady also tallied three RBIs after hitting a double to left center field. 

Junior Madison McDonald went 3-for-4 at the plate, setting a season high for hits and runs scored, driving in one run and scoring twice on her own. 

Katelyn Cooper (2-for-4) and Laura Harris (2-for-4) also had great games at the plate for Columbus State, each with an RBI to add to the tally. 

UP NEXT 

The Cougars will be back at Cougar Field on Saturday, March 23, to open the series with USC Aiken starting at 2 p.m.
