COLUMBUS - On Senior Day in Columbus on Sunday, the Columbus State softball team defeated USC Aiken in the third game to sweep the Peach Belt Conference series. The Cougars now improve to 22-13 (13-2 PBC).
USC Aiken got on board first in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs off of a two-run RBI double and a RBI single. The Pacers extended the lead to 5-0 in the third inning thanks to a home run and a fielding error by
Caitlyn Canady in center field.
Senior
Lindsey Patton gave the Cougars two runs in the third inning with a two-run home run to left field before the Cougars scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take the lead.
Kristen Odum scored off of fielder's choice by the shortstop, with
Kenzie Bayer collecting that RBI. Larris Harris then ripped a two-run RBI double to right center and
Nova Wright smacked a three-run homer left center.
Anna Waites gave CSU nine runs after scoring off a wild pitch.
Julianna Franklin received the win inside the circle after 4.0 innings of work and improves to 9-3. Odum and Patton led CSU with two hits each.
