ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Head softball coach
Brad Huskisson earned his 500th victory at Columbus State in the second game of a doubleheader vs. Peach Belt Conference foe Flagler College on Saturday, March 30. The Cougars won 9-5, but fell 8-1 in the first game. CSU now posts a 23-15 (14-4 PBC) record.
Game 1: CSU 1 FC 8
FC out-hit CSU 10-7 and had a 2-0 lead after the first two innings of play. The Cougars scored their only run in the top of the third inning thanks to a
Laura Harris RBI single up the middle, plating
Brooke Miller.Â
The Saints scored one run in the third and fourth innings, and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.Â
Jessica Lopez received the loss inside the circle and is now 6-3 on the season. Harris led CSU with two hits.
Game 2: CSU 9 FC 5
FC took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but CSU went ahead 2-1 in the third inning with another Harris single up the middle, scoring
Katelyn Cooper and
Madison McDonald. However, Flagler tied the game with a solo homer in the next half inning.
In the fifth inning, CSU took a 4-2 lead thanks to a Harris RBI double and a Miller RBI single up the middle. The Saints took a 5-4 lead in the fifth and sixth innings off of two solo home runs.
The Cougars rallied in the seventh inning, scoring five runs.
Lindsey Patton started the rally with a RBI single, and with bases loaded,
Grace Kiser walked, forcing Patton to score. McDonald and
Caitlyn Canady each recorded two RBI singles and Cooper collected a RBI with a bases loaded walk.
Canady led CSU with three hits and
Jessica Lopez earned the win inside the circle after 1.1 innings of work.
