AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference released the Players of the Week for Monday, April 15 and four Columbus State University student-athletes have been named.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week - Andreas Sandrone
Sandrone was unbeaten in singles and doubles as the fifth-ranked Cougars improved to 3-1 in league play with a 6-1 win over GCSU. The sophomore from Saluzzo, Italy, defeated Enzo Sergi 6-4, 6-4 in singles and partnered with Felix Steen to beat GCSU's Crespo and Villen 6-4. Sandrone improves to 10-4 in dual match play this spring, 3-0 in conference and 9-5 in doubles.
Softball Pitcher of the Week - Haylee Folds
Folds pitched a complete-game against USC Beaufort in the series finale on Sunday, striking out five with four hits and no runs allowed. The senior righty from Dallas, Ga., made three appearances overall on the week, pitching 15.0 innings with two earned runs and eight strikeouts. She pitched five shutout innings against USCB in the opener, leaving the game with a 5-0 lead after striking out a pair. Folds improves to 9-6 on the season with the win.
Women's Golf Player of the Week - Marine Legentil
Legentil finished in fourth place at the UNG Bracket Challenge, shooting rounds of 72-74-71 for a one-over 217. Playing in head-to-head medal matches against #15 Lee and #19 Grand Valley State in the first two rounds, she won her final match to secure CSU's 3-2 win over the UNG B squad. Her final-round 71 was the second-lowest of the day and her fifth round this season at or under par. She also picked up her third top-five result and is now sixth in the PBC in stroke average.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week - Isadora Oliveira
Oliveira was flawless in two conference outings last week, going 2-0 in singles and doubles. Against #49 GCSU, she beat Ashton Morrison 6-3, 6-1. She partnered with Yelena Labat to defeat the Bobcats' Santoro and Almargo 6-3. Against #11 Flagler, Oliviera beat Leonie Floeth 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at #4 singles, one of the two singles points for the Cougars in a 4-3 loss. She and Labat beat Jipescu and Pfeiffer 6-2 at second doubles as the Cougars secured the doubles point. For the season, Oliveira improves to 12-4 in singles, including 4-0 against conference opponents, with seven singles wins in a row.
