Men's Tennis Falls Short in PBC Tournament Championship

Columbus State finished second in the tournament, falling 4-2 to Flagler College in the title game.

COLUMBUS - The second-seeded Columbus State (13-7, 4-1 PBC) men's tennis battled in a 4-2 loss to the number one seed Flagler College (17-2, 5-0 PBC) on Sunday afternoon in the 2024 Peach Belt Conference Championship finals.

Columbus State 2, Flagler College 4

Flagler College established an early lead, winning the doubles point at numbers one and two. The Cougars' only doubles win came at number three, with Andreas Sandrone and Elias Peter winning 6-3.

The Cougars gained momentum in singles, with Justin Welz leading the charge. He dominated his match, defeating Flagler's number one 6-1, 6-0.

Camilo Cano was not far behind at number three singles, defeating S. Malis 6-0, 6-4. He was the last Cougar to ultimately push a point across for Columbus State. 

Baptiste Mercier clinched the Saints' victory at number two singles, taking the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

The Cougars will wait to find out if they have secured a position in the NCAA Southeast Regionals, which begins Friday, May 10.
