COLUMBUS – No. 17-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer returns home to the Walden Soccer Complex this week beginning on Wednesday with a home clash against Tusculum (Tenn).
The Lady Cougars (4-0-0) return to Columbus for a midweek bout against the Pioneers (2-2-0) after traveling to Daytona Beach, Fla. this weekend for a 4-1 win at (RV) Embry-Riddle.
Columbus State remains unbeaten in four matches and will look to continue the positive form this week while Tusculum is 2-2 this season and are coming off a 3-2 victory over Shaw (N.C.) on Saturday.
CSU boasts a 9-3 overall record over the Pioneers and are riding an eight-game winning streak. The Lady Cougars blanked Tusculum last season in a 5-0 win on the road in Greeneville, Tenn.
The Pioneers are on a two-game winning streak after slipping in the first pair of matches to open the season. Tusculum averages 10.8 shots per game and have totaled six goals across four matches played.
Sydney Grant leads the Pioneers with two goals and an assist while newcomer Addison Rishling has scored twice this season. Last season, Grant was a Second-Team All-SAC selection after leading Tusculum with four goals and three assists. TU is led by second-year head coach Vanessa Fyffe who is 4-12-4 while at the helm of the program.
As for the Lady Cougars, they have outscored opponents 17-1, averaging 4.25 goals per game. The Lady Cougars attack has produced a total of 77 shots with an average of 19.3 per contest which includes a 55.8% (43-of-77) shot-on-goal percentage.
Emma Beddow continues to lead the way as the top point producer for CSU with eight points, scoring twice and assisting four goals this season.
Sarah Hungerford is the leading goal scorer with three scores as well as an assist. Four individuals have scored at least twice this season while another six individuals have found the back of the net once.
Columbus State's defense has allowed 35 shots in four matches played but has stood firm in giving up just nine shots on goal.
Heidi Harris has continued to remain the first choice in goal, recording 336 minutes and notching seven saves with just one goal against.
