COLUMBUS – No. 23-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer welcomes Florida Southern to the Walden Soccer Complex on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET for the second clash of the season.
The Lady Cougars (1-0-0) opened the season on Thursday afternoon with a dominant first showing in a 6-0 win over Carson-Newman (Tenn.).
CSU looks to continue the positive form into Saturday's contest against a Florida Southern team who defeated fellow PBC member Georgia Southwestern 3-0 on Thursday. The Mocs (1-0-0) battled against the Canes at the Walden Soccer Complex in a neutral site contest.
Florida Southern returns 17 players from the previous season while head coach Gerry Lucey is in his second season at the helm of the program. 10 of the 17 players were a part of the program's 2022 NCAA Regional squad.
The Columbus State backline will have to look out for Anita Vera who bagged a brace on Thursday with just two shots taken in 52 minutes of play. The Mocs held GSW to just four shots overall with one on frame. As a team, FSC pressured the Canes with 14 total shots and nine on goal.
As for the Lady Cougars, they are coming off a dominant season-opener against Carson-Newman. CSU totaled six different goal scorers with Emma Beddow leading the charge with a goal and two assists. Vanessa Aviles led the way with six total shot attempts, landing four on frame. She tallied a goal and an assist as well.
Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. ET on Saturday. The match will be streamed on the PBC Sports Network and Live Stats will be available.
