DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Columbus State University traveled to Dahlonega for a Monday night matchup at North Georgia in the rescheduled contest which was set to take place over the weekend.
The Lady Cougars (9-4, 3-1 PBC) utilized a massive fourth quarter to fly past the Nighthawks (13-1, 3-1 PBC) in a 77-64 upset victory on the road.
First Quarter
Three-pointers from
Bre'lyn Snipes and
Jasmine Rai Stevens followed by a free throw from
Letiya Reeves gave CSU an early 7-0 advantage to open the game. After the early blow, North Georgia settled in and took seven and half minutes to generate a 14-4 run to close out the period with a 14-11 lead. Snipes led CSU with five points in the quarter.
Second Quarter
Columbus State edged out North Georgia in the first four minutes of the second quarter with a 13-10 stretch of scoring led by six points from
Zuzanna Rudenko and five from Reeves. The Lady Cougars leveled the score 24-24 with six minutes to go and closed out with a 13-12 scoring stretch to lead 37-36 at the halftime break.
Third Quarter
Both teams battled back and forth to a 43-43 tie to open the period with UNG leading 7-6 in the first three and half minutes. After a floater from
Sophia Williams swished the net to give CSU a 45-43 lead at the 6:05 mark, North Georgia would go on to close out the third quarter with a 14-6 run to lead 57-51.
Fourth Quarter
Columbus State quickly knocked North Georgia on the ropes with a 13-0 gut punch in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter to lead 64-57. The Lady Cougars finished the period with a 13-7 run led by six points from Reeves. CSU bested UNG with a huge quarter, outscoring the Nighthawks 26-7 in the quarter to win 77-64.
Inside the Numbers
- The Lady Cougars finished shooting for 39.7% (27-of-68) from the field, 35.5% (11-of-31) from three, and 75.0% (12-of-16) from the charity stripe.
- A total of four Lady Cougars gathered double-digit points with Reeves leading the charge with 21 points as well as a second-best eight rebounds.
- Snipes followed with 19 points while Olonna Rawls scored 12 points, adding five assists and four steals.
- Rudenko closed out with 10 points and two assists.
- Williams led the rebounding efforts with 10 of CSU's 40 boards, helping to beat out UNG's team total of 36.
- Williams also led with five steals and five assists.
- Columbus State tallied 12 steals on 22 North Georgia turnovers, scoring 15 points in the process.
- CSU is now 4-1 in the last five meetings and on a 3-0 winning streak over UNG.
