COLUMBUS – Columbus State women's basketball welcomed Peach Belt Conference rival Clayton State (Ga.) to the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center on Wednesday night.
The Lady Cougars (10-4, 4-1 PBC) rolled over the Lakers (5-10, 2-3 PBC) in convincing fashion, securing an 84-59 win to move the latest winning streak to three games.
First Quarter
Letiya Reeves scored the first bucket four seconds into the contest with Clayton State responding nearly 60 seconds later with their first score. The following three minutes would result in a tightly contested stretch of 10-10 play. Columbus State would follow up with a 12-6 run to close out the quarter with a 24-18 advantage.
Bre'lyn Snipes led the way with six points followed by four from Reeves.
Second Quarter
Columbus State put together 16 points in the second quarter while Clayton State produced 11.
Amanda Ogbonna led the charge with five points with Reeves adding four more. CSU went 7-of-19 from the field and just 1-of-6 from three. The Lady Cougars went into the break with a 40-29 lead.
Third Quarter
The Lady Cougars bested the Lakers 20-17 in the third quarter, holding a double-figure advantage the entire way. CSU went 7-of-14 from the field and 5-of-10 from the foul line to lead 60-46. Snipes dropped five with
Simone Lett recording four. The third quarter was riddled with a combined 18 turnovers between both teams.
Fourth Quarter
Columbus State handled business in the fourth with a 24-13 outing to finish with an 84-59 lead as time expired. Snipes surged with nine points in the period followed by four from
Kristyn Goshay and three from
Olonna Rawls. CSU finished shooting 7-of-16 from the field, 3-of-6 from three, and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Inside the Numbers
- The Lady Cougars finished the night shooting for 44.9% (31-of-69) from the field, 37.5% (9-of-24) from three, and 56.5% (13-of-23) from the foul line.
- Snipes led the Lady Cougars with 20 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.
- Reeves followed with 12 points, an assist, and a steal.
- Goshay and Zuzanna Rudenko both added nine points each.
- Turnovers plagued both sides for a combined 61 turnovers. CSU finished with 24 while Clayton State gave up 37.
