COLUMBUS – Columbus State women's basketball welcomed conference opponent USC Beaufort on Wednesday night.
The Lady Cougars (12-5, 6-2 PBC) bounced back with a convincing victory over the Sand Sharks (3-13, 1-7 PBC) in the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
First Quarter
Thirty seconds into the first quarter the Cougars' scoring leader, Bre'lyn Snipes opened up the scoreboard with a layup. USC Beaufort tallied a scoring sheet of seven points to go up 7-2 against the Lady Cougars. While still on a hot scoring run, the Sand Sharks kept on biting to eventually go up 11-5 against the Lady Cougars. Letiya Reeves ended the first quarter with a half-court buzzer beater to put the Lady Cougars up by six.
Second Quarter
The second quarter opened with back-and-forth play for a little over two minutes until the Sand Sharks finally added two points to the tally. The Lady Cougars and the Sand Sharks continued to battle out the second quarter to then end the half 31-29 in favor of Columbus State. Kristyn Goshay led the half, scoring ten points as Snipes led the Lady Cougars in rebounds and assists.
Third Quarter
Opening the second half, Jasmine Rai Stevens put her name back on the score sheet. Soon after, a spark lit inside the Lady Cougars as the game began to pick up. Reeves went on to score eighteen points this quarter after going on a scoring hiatus during the second quarter. The Lady Cougars flew past the Sand Sharks to end the quarter with a comfortable lead of 65-44.
Fourth Quarter
Columbus State remained on top for the remainder of the game despite shooting 7-of-19. Snipes led the fourth quarter scoring six points while Amanda Ogbonna put her name on the board with a basketball at the foul line. The Lady Cougars sealed the game with an 80-63 win over the Sand Sharks to tally another conference win to their record.
