AUGUSTA, Ga. – Columbus State University women's basketball traveled to Augusta, Ga. for a Peach Belt Conference matchup at Augusta on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars (7-4, 1-1 PBC) fell to the Jaguars (9-2, 2-0 PBC) in a 63-52 loss in the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
First Quarter
Augusta took an early lead with a 13-11 advantage in the first quarter of play. CSU shot for 30.8% (4-of-13) from the field in the period with
Bre'lyn Snipes leading the Lady Cougars with three points while four others notched two points apiece.
Second Quarter
Columbus State opened the second quarter with a 6-3 run to capture a 17-16 lead in the first five minutes. Augusta turned around and finished the quarter with a 10-7 stretch of scoring to lead 26-24.
Zuzanna Rudenko led CSU with four points with
Letiya Reeves behind her with three.
Third Quarter
Augusta pulled away further from Columbus State in the third quarter using a 15-10 advantage in scoring while shooting for 50% (6-of-12) from the field in the process to lead 41-34. The Lady Cougars shot for just 15.4% (2-of-13) from the field and scored five points from the foul line with
Jasmine Rai Stevens leading the scoring efforts with three points.
Fourth Quarter
Columbus State slipped to a double-digit deficit early in the fourth quarter and struggled to recover. Augusta took the first six or so minutes to build up a 17-7 run and a 58-41 lead. The Lady Cougars surged with an 11-5 run of their own in the final three and a half minutes but ran out of time, falling 63-52.
Inside the Numbers
- The Lady Cougars finished shooting for 31.1% (19-of-61) from the field, 14.3% (3-of-21) from three, and 57.9% (11-of-19) from the foul line.
- Reeves and Rudenko tallied 10 points each with reeves snagging five steals.
- Snipes scored seven points and grabbed nine boards as well as three steals.
- CSU totaled 16 steals on Augusta's 30 turnovers, scoring 31 points of the Jags' miscues.
- Augusta led 35-31 in rebounding.
