COLUMBUS – No. 25-ranked Columbus State men's basketball welcomed Georgia Southwestern to the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center on Wednesday night for the first home Peach Belt Conference battle of the 2024-25 campaign.
Jarrett Adderton's career-best 35 points helped the Cougars (11-2, 2-1 PBC) push past the Hurricanes (6-7, 0-3 PBC) in a 94-89 bounce-back victory on Herbert Greene Court.
First Half
After an opening score from the Hurricanes, Columbus State followed with a 9-2 run over the next two and a half minutes to lead 9-4 with 17:08 on the clock.
Roman Son led the run with five points while
Jehloni James tallied four.
CSU edged out GSW in a 17-14 stretch of scoring over the following seven minutes to move to a 26-18 advantage. Adderton charged with 11 points followed by three others with two points apiece. The Cougars went 6-of-11 from the field during the run, adding five free throws in the process.
Georgia Southwestern gained momentum and began knocking on the door of the Cougars' lead with a 15-9 run over the next four or so minutes. With five minutes to play, CSU held a 35-33 lead. Columbus State closed out the half with an 11-7 run to move to a 46-40 lead at the break despite the final two minutes not seeing a single score. Adderton added six points in the final few minutes to move his first half tally to 19 points.
Second Half
The Hurricanes opened on a 6-0 run, going 2-for-2 from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line to tie the game at 46-46 with 18:35 to play. Columbus State moved to a 56-52 lead with a 10-6 run over the next couple of minutes as
Kordell Brown and
Wisdom Uboh scored three each.
Over the next five minutes, both teams traded scoring trips with GSW edging out in a 15-14 stretch of scoring. The Hurricanes built up to a 63-59 lead with 12:42 on the clock, but the Cougars scored 11 of their 14 in the following two minutes as Uboh led the way with six points to help secure a 70-67 advantage with less than 10 minutes left in the game.
Over the next nine minutes, Columbus State would not relinquish the lead. CSU quickly surged to a 10-point edge with less than seven to play and held a double-digit lead once more at the 5:47 mark. GSW would go on to battle down the stretch and lead 15-10 in the final four minutes, but CSU held tough with nine points in the final two minutes to secure a 94-89 victory.

- CSU shot for 52.6% (30-of-57) from the field, 35.7% (5-of-14) from three, and 69.0% (29-of-42) from the foul line.
- Adderton tallied a career-high night, scoring 35 points adding six rebounds, four steals, two assists, and two blocks in the process.
- James totaled a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards.
- Uboh closed with 15 points and a team-leading four assists followed by 12 from Brown.
- CSU totaled eight steals on 15 GSW turnovers, scoring 17 points off the errors from the guests.
- Both teams tied 34-34 off the glass.
- CSU is now 21-15 against GSW and holds a 2-0 streak over the Hurricanes.
