COLUMBUS – Columbus State University senior forward Sarah Hungerford has been named this week's Athlete of the Week after delivering a sensational hat trick in the Lady Cougars' 6–0 victory over Clayton State in Peach Belt Conference play.
 
The Richmond Hill, Ga., native took command from the opening whistle, striking once in the first half before completing her hat trick in the second. Her three-goal performance highlighted her ability to rise to the moment in big games.
 
Hungerford, who starred at Richmond Hill High School, is a dedicated student-athlete off the field as well. She is pursuing dual majors in Kinesiology and Nursing with a minor in Psychology, balancing a demanding academic schedule while continuing to shine on the pitch.
 
When asked about her most memorable moment as a Lady Cougar, Hungerford reflected on a game last season that showcased her clutch scoring ability:
 
"One of the most memorable games I've played was in the 2024 regular season against Lander, where I scored both the tying goal to get us back in the game and the winning goal in the last minutes of the game."
 
That moment, along with Saturday's dominant hat trick, underscores her legacy as one of CSU's top senior leaders. As the Lady Cougars prepare for the postseason, Hungerford's scoring touch, experience, and leadership will be key in their push for another championship run.
