MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Columbus State Women's Basketball team put together one of its most balanced efforts of the year in an 84-59 win over Auburn University at Montgomery at the AUM Athletics Complex. From start to finish, the Cougars controlled the pace, the paint, and the turnover battle to move to 3–1 on the season.
Columbus State came out playing aggressively on both ends, using a 20-point first quarter to set the tone before stretching the lead to 46-28 by halftime. The Lady Cougars' depth was on full display, scoring 45 bench points, constant defensive pressure, and 64 points in the paint allowed the Cougars to steadily pull away as the game went on.
Nekaya Williams led the Cougars' offense with 16 points on an efficient 7-of-12 shooting, while also grabbing five rebounds in just 17 minutes of play.
Samara Saunders provided a strong spark off the bench, finishing with 14 points and three steals, and
Letiya Reeves added 10 points and five boards as part of Columbus State's active guard play. In all, 11 different Cougars scored, highlighting the depth that fueled the win.
Defensively, the Lady Cougars forced 33 AUM turnovers, converting them into 37 points, and held the Warhawks without a made three-pointer. Columbus State also collected 15 steals.
With the road win, Columbus State (3–1) now turns its attention to a Tuesday matchup at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala., with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.
