DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Columbus State University Women's Basketball team came up short in their Peach Belt Conference match-up on Wednesday night in an 88-80 loss to the University of North Georgia at the UNG Convocation Center.

The Lady Cougars put together a strong offensive showing, scoring 24 points in both the third and fourth quarters, but an early deficit and timely shooting from the Nighthawks proved too much to overcome. Columbus State shot 30-of-69 from the field and 15-of-22 at the line.

Nekaya Williams followed with 15 points and four rebounds, while Samara Saunders posted a solid 13-point, 9-rebound effort. Alana Hankerson came off the bench to provide a big spark, scoring 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including three from beyond the arc. Sophia Williams finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists.

The Lady Cougars score 38 points in the paint. Columbus State also grabbed 13 offensive rebounds, turning them into 14 second-chance points.

North Georgia countered with balanced scoring of its own, shooting 32-of-77 from the field and knocking down nine threes. The Nighthawks held a slight edge on the glass (46–36) and used a 27-point fourth quarter to stay in front.

With the loss, Columbus State moves to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in Peach Belt Conference play and now turns its attention to Saturday, December 13, at 1:30 p.m., when the Lady Cougars travel to Morrow, Ga., for another Peach Belt match-up against Clayton State University.
