ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Columbus State women's basketball took to the hardwood on Monday night in a Peach Belt Conference meeting at Flagler (Fla.) that was originally slated for Jan. 22.
The Lady Cougars (15-6, 9-3 PBC) secured a win over the Saints (8-13, 4-8 PBC) in an 82-69 road ballgame at Flagler Gym in St. Augustine, Fla.
First Quarter
Nearly 90 seconds ticked off the clock until Flagler scored the first bucket, but
Letiya Reeves led Columbus State to a 5-0 run in response. Both teams battled in back-and-forth play for the quarter in a 12-12 scoring run as CSU edged out to a 17-14 lead. Reeves dropped 10 points in the first 10 minutes of play.
Second Quarter
Reeves tallied six more points in the first four and half minutes followed by four from
Olonna Rawls, boosting the Lady Cougars to a 32-28 lead. Columbus State closed out with a 9-4 run as Reeves continued her dominance with another five points to move her total to 21 on the night.
Third Quarter
Columbus State advanced with a 13-8 run to expand the lead to 14 points in the first five and half minutes. CSU went 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line as
Bre'lyn Snipes led with five points. Flagler edged out Columbus State in a 10-9 stretch to close the period, but remained in a double-digit deficit as the Lady Cougars held a commanding 63-50 advantage.
Fourth Quarter
Snipes led CSU with eight points followed by six from Reeves and four from
Zuzanna Rudenko in what would be a 19-19 fourth quarter. The Lady Cougars went 8-of-17 from the field to seal the game shut with the 82-69 lead.
Inside the Numbers
- The Lady Cougars finished the night shooting for 41.0% (32-of-78) from the field, 25.7% (9-of-35) from the three, and 64.3% (9-of-14) from the foul line.
- Reeves led with a season-best 27 points and 11 made baskets which included three long-range shots from beyond the arc.
- Snipes added 15 points while Rawls scored 14 and tallied 11 boards as well.
- Rudenko rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
- CSU dominated the paint, outscoring Flagler 46-26.
- The Lady Cougar defense tallied seven steals on 12 turnovers from the Saints.
