COLUMBUS, GA. – Columbus State University softball split their doubleheader against The University of Montevallo during their Wednesday matchup.
The Lady Cougars (12-2) took one win and one loss against the Falcons (9-8) losing game one 0-1 in eight innings and taking game two 10-5.
Game One - Columbus State 0, Montevallo 1
After a scoreless seven innings, Montevallo got a run on the board to end the extra inning game 1-0.
Montevallo recorded their first hit of the game in the second inning after a Falcon singled to right field. Another falcon reached base on the fielder's choice, but Montevallo was unable to produce any runs. Abrianna Green recorded the first hit for CSU in the third inning, but the Lady Cougars were unable to bring her home.
Both teams had quick outings for the next few innings as the score stayed 0-0. In the fifth, Rylie Beddingfield ripped a single to the pitcher and stole a base, but was unable to come home. Montevallo left one on third base in the fifth after a pop fly and ground ended the inning.
Julianna Franklin entered the mound for Khloe Shears in the seventh inning where she recorded two strikeouts to send the game into extra innings. An unearned run for Montevallo gave them the 1-0 win in eight innings.

Game Two - Columbus State 10, Montevallo 5
Columbus State ran the score up early against the Falcons as they went up 6-0 in the first inning. Ansley Collins got the Lady Cougars rolling with a single to left field. An RBI single for Anna Waites brought in Collins, moving Nova Wright to third base. A sacrifice groundout by Avery Hays brought in Nova to go up 2-0. A single from Gracyn Gurley brought in Waites for another run on the board. Mary-Catherine Sorrell homered for an additional two runs for the Lady Cougars. Izzy Rippati added to the fun as she doubled to right field where she eventually came in for an unearned run.
Montevallo responded in the third as they were able to get a run on the board after a triple to right field brought in a Falcon.
Columbus State added four more runs in the fourth inning. Wright smashed a double up to bring in Madison McDonald. A home run by Holly Lynn brought in Waites, and Wright to go up 10-1 against the Falcons. Montevallo responded again as they added four runs in the fourth, but despite their efforts left CSU with the win.
