MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Columbus State University softball opened Peach Belt Conference action on Friday night with a single contest at Georgia College to open the series in Milledgeville, Ga.
The Lady Cougars (12-3, 0-1 PBC) fell in a 6-2 contest to the Bobcats (7-8, 1-0 PBC) for the third loss of the season.
Columbus State 2, Georgia College 6
Columbus State struggled to produce anything offensively until the fourth inning while Georgia College produced an RBI double and an RBI single in the opening frame of play for an early 2-0 lead. GCSU followed with an RBI base hit in the bottom of the second for a 3-0 lead before a scoreless third would pass.
CSU battled with a leadoff single from
Nova Wright followed by an RBI triple from
Anna Waites to push in the first run. Waites scored on a ground out from
Mary-Catherine Sorrell to pull the deficit to 3-2.
After a rather quick and scoreless fifth inning, Georgia College utilized an RBI single, an error, and a two-RBI double to move to a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Unfortunately, CSU could not find a hit in the seventh inning as
Holly Lynn reached on a walk but was left stranded to close the game in the 6-2 defeat.

- GCSU led 7-4 in hits with CSU recording hits from Aubree Ussery, Ella Hopper, Wright, and Waites.
- Waites and Sorrell both gathered on RBI each.
- Julianna Franklin (7-2) pitched all six innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, walking one batter and striking out eight.
