Softball Opens Conference Play at Georgia College

CSU takes on GCSU on Friday night to open a two-day, three game series

COLUMBUS – Peach Belt Conference play begins on Friday night for Columbus State University softball as they open the weekend in Milledgeville, Ga. for a PBC clash at Georgia College.

Previewing Columbus State

The Lady Cougars (12-2) are coming off a mid-week split at Montevallo (Ala.) dropping an eight-inning 1-0 loss in the first game and capturing a 10-5 victory in game two. The trio of Ansley Collins, Nova Wright, and Mary-Catherine Sorrell led the bats in the second game with two hits each while Holly Lynn highlighted with yet another homer this season to drive in three runs.

Lynn leads the offensive production in batting average (.414), home runs (seven), and RBIs (16) while slugging 1.138. She has also notched a team second-best 12 hits alongside Anna Waites. Wright leads the way in total hits (13) and doubles (five) while being second in RBIs (15).

In the circle, Julianna Franklin has recorded 49.0 innings for a 7-1 record and an 0.86 ERA, striking out 46 batters so far this season. Lily Miller has notched a 1.58 ERA on 31.0 innings pitched, producing a 5-1 record and striking out 27 batters.

Last season, CSU met GCSU four times and secured a win in each contest, outscoring the Bobcats 42-28. CSU is currently on a 5-0 streak against Georgia College.

Scouting the Opponents

Georgia College (6-8) is riding a three-game skid and most recently fell to Erskine (S.C.) on Wednesday, dropping both games in two tightly contested ballgames.

Stephanie Condland leads in batting average (.382) and is third on the team in total hits (13) and second in RBIs (nine). Kam Caldwell leads with 17 hits and has tallied nine RBIs as well for a .340 batting average with Divina Checo leading with 10 RBIs and second in total hits with 15.

Shelby Jones and Tiffany Caban have carried most of the weight in the circle, tossing for 30+ innings each. Jones holds a 3.10 ERA and a 2-3 record with 27 strikeouts while Caban is 3-1 on the season and carries a 4.43 ERA with 44 strikeouts.
