COLUMBUS, GA. – Columbus State University softball split the final two games of the series against Georgia College.
The Lady Cougars (13-4, 1-2 PBC) took one win and one loss against the Bobcats (8-9, 2-1 PBC) losing game one 4-5 in eight innings and taking game two 12-4.
Game One - Columbus State 4, Georgia College 5
After a scoreless first and second inning, Georgia College went up 2-0 in the third inning. A triple to center field brought an unearned run for the Bobcats, followed by a sacrifice fly to bring in one more. The Lady Cougars responded in the fourth after Holly Lynn ripped a double to center field. A Gracyn Gurley double moved Lynn to third as Kara Wegienka stepped up to the plate for a single to bring in Lynn and Gurley.
After a scoreless fifth, both teams added a run in the sixth to keep the game tied up. Anna Waites ripped a double to left field and was eventually brought in by Wegienka after she collected another single. After a short lead for CSU, the Bobcats produced two hits to get a tying run on the board.
Abrianna Green blasted her first home run of the season in the seventh to give Columbus State the 4-3 lead. The Bobcats tied the game back up in the bottom seventh after a double to left field brought in an unearned run.
Extra innings gave CSU the loss 4-5 after the Bobcats were able to produce a run in the eleventh inning.

Game Two - Columbus State 12 , Georgia College 4
After a tough loss in game one after four extra innings, Columbus State opened game two with two home runs from Mary-Catherine Sorrell and Nova Wright. Georgia College was quick to get on the board after a Bobcat stole home base.
The Cougars started rolling in the second inning after a single from Rylie Beddingfield, Mary-Catherine Sorrell, and Madison Mcdonald loaded the bases. Wright blasted a grand slam to bring in four runs for CSU. Wright recorded her second home run of the game and fourth on the season to give CSU a 6-1 lead.
Sorrel and Wright were walked in the fourth inning and a fielding error from the Bobcats led to Sorrell gaining another run for the Lady Cougars. Another error from Georgia College allowed Wright to make her way home. A sacrifice fly from Lynn brought in another Cougar for a 9-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, the Bobcats responded with a two-run RBI. The Lady Cougars tallied another run from Wright after she hit a single to left center field and was eventually brought in by Ella Hopper. Georgia College got their fourth run on the board after a sacrifice fly led to an error by CSU which brought in a runner.
In the seventh, Beddingfield ripped a double to right field followed by a base hit for McDonald to bring Beddingfield home. Another hit for Wright brought in McDonald for the 12-4 win.
