Columbus State Basketball Teams Face North Georgia in Weekend Matchup

The Lady Cougars tip off at 1:30 p.m. ET followed by the men at 3:30 p.m. ET

COLUMBUS – The Columbus State basketball teams are happy to be back at home in the Frank G Lumpkin Jr. Center. The Cougars open the doors to welcome the Nighthawks of North Georgia University for their second PBC meeting this season.

Women's Basketball vs North Georgia 

The Lady Cougars (14-5, 8-2 PBC) are looking to gain another win against the No. 11 Nighthawks (18-2, 8-2 PBC) after their monumental win back in January. Currently, the two teams are sharing the number one spot for the Peach Belt Conference. CSU is fresh off a 68-67 win against the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University. 

In the game, the Lady Cougars went 40.7% (24-of-59) in field goals, 22.2% (4-of-18) in three pointers and 76.2% (16-of-21) in free throws. Olonna Rawls led CSU to their win scoring 19 points of her own for the night, one being the game winning point. Zuzanna Rudenko and Jasmine Rai Stevens were behind with 10 points each and an assist. On the defensive side, the team totaled 16 points from the 16 turnover GSW committed. 

For the No. 11 Nighthawks of North Georgia, the ladies are looking to make a comeback after dropping a 51-43 home contest against Georgia College. In that game this past Wednesday, North Georgia went 26.6% (17-of-64) field goals, 19.0% (4-of-21) in three pointers, and 35.7% (5-of-14) from the charity line. NGU had the lead at half, but GCSU made an impressive comeback to win the game 51-43.

#20 Men's Basketball vs North Georgia 

The No. 20-ranked Cougars (17-3, 8-2 PBC) are still defending their top spot with the PBC after a close call against Georgia Southwestern State Wednesday, February 5. The Cougars were able to clinch a 78-75 win over the Hurricanes on their home court.  

CSU were able to score 51.1% (24-of-47) in field goals, 36.4% (4-of-11) from three, and 76.5% (26-of-34) in free throws. Wisdom Uboh helped with the win as he scored 24 points (6-of-8), four assists and went 12-for-12 in free throws. Jarrett Adderton and Kordell were not too far off with 17 points respectively. Defensively, the Cougars made 22 defensive rebounds out of 28 total.  

The North Georgia men's team (13-9, 5-5 PBC) also fell short to Georgia College losing 77-59. GCSU had the lead at half and continued their dominance throughout the rest of the game. The Nighthawks went 35.4% in field goals, 10.5% in three pointers and 69.7% in free throws.
