Cougars Softball Splits at Emmanuel

Softball moves to a 14-5 record

FRANKLIN SPRING, Ga.  – Columbus State softball traveled north to Franklin Springs for a Tuesday evening non-conference matchup at Emmanuel (Ga.).
 
The Lady Cougars (14-5) split the doubleheader against the Lions (5-12) dropping the first contest 10-4 and picking up the second game 6-1.
 
Game One | Columbus State 4, Emmanuel 10
 
Emmanuel jumped out to a four-run lead with a pair of runs in the first two frames of action. The Lady Cougars cut the deficit in half in the third inning with a leadoff homer from Madison McDonald and an unearned run from Avery Hays on an error. The Lions added another run in the bottom of the third with a score on a passed ball for a 5-2 advantage.
 
After scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth innings, the Lady Cougars gained a run back in the sixth with a sacrifice fly from Aubree Ussery to score Nova Wright. Unfortunately, Emmanuel blasted into a 10-3 lead with six hits, scoring five runs. Columbus State tallied one final run in the seventh with another home from McDonald to make the game 10-4.
 
Quick Hits
  • McDonald led with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs which all game from her two home runs.
  • CSU notched just three hits while EU recorded 11.
  • CSU gave up four errors while EU allowed two.
  • Julianna Franklin tossed for 6.0 innings and moved to an 8-4 record after striking out four batters while giving up seven earned runs. 
Game Two | Columbus State 6, Emmanuel 1
 
Columbus State bounced back with a 6-1 win in game two, opening with a three-run first inning. CSU picked up hits from McDonald, Anna Waites, and Holly Lynn. With Waites recording an RBI while the other two runs coming in on an error.
 
After scoreless efforts in the second and third innings, Rylie Beddingfield sparked the fourth inning with a lead-off double while McDonald drove Beddingfield home for the 4-0 lead. The fifth would pass in a scoreless affair with the Lady Cougars adding another two runs in the sixth.
 
CSU produced three hits which included an RBI double from Izzy Ripatti and an RBI single from McDonald for a 6-0 advantage. Emmanuel drove in a run in the bottom half of the sixth, but thankfully that was all the Lions could muster up.
 
Quick Hits
  • CSU outhit EU 11-3 in the second contest with McDonald leading the charge with three hits and two RBIs.
  • Madison Norrell followed with two hits as did Ripatti with two hits and an RBI.
  • Lily Miller threw a complete game and allowed just three hits, one earned run, and one walk while striking out eight batters.
