COLUMBUS – Columbus State women's tennis welcomed No. 13-ranked Wingate (N.C.) to the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Cougars (6-3) picked up a huge 4-3 win over the Bulldogs (8-3) with Mariana Ramirez securing her match in singles play to capture the win.

CSU picked up a 6-4 win from Nikoline Gullacksen and Ramirez at No. 1 doubles but lost the doubles point after dropping the other two matches. In singles play, Gullacksen went down 6-3 in the first set but bounced back with 6-1 and 6-2 wins at No. 1 singles.

Wingate earned wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles while Isadora Oliveira captured No. 4 singles 7-6 and 6-1 win with a tiebreaker in set one followed by 6-3 and 6-4 wins from Sofia Lauretti at No. 5 singles. At No. 2 singles, Ramirez dropped the first set 6-4 and battled back with a 6-3 win in set two. She secured the clinching team point with a 7-6 tiebreaker win in the third set to capture the 4-3 victory.
