COLUMBUS – Columbus State University softball played the last game of the weekend series Saturday at noon against the Augusta Jaguars.
The Lady Cougars (22-8, 3-3 PBC) took the series at home with a 4-1 win against Augusta (16-15, 2-7 PBC) for their third conference win of the season.

With the taking the series at stake, the pressure was on Columbus State to win big in the last game. At the bottom of the second, Holly Lynn stepped up to bat and hit a home run to right field on the first pitch.
At the bottom of the fourth and Rylie Beddingfield up at the plate, she singled through right side and was able to advance all the way to third base after a series of errors from the Jaguars. Avery Hays was up next and singled up the middle for Beddingfield to score, getting the Lady Cougars up 2-0.
With Augusta unable to score, Columbus State continued to score more. Mary-Catherine Sorrell walked at the bottom of the fifth to then advance to seconds after a wild pitch. Nova Wright hit a double and advanced to their on the throw while Sorrell ran home making the score 3-0. Anna Waites grounded at second base, but Wright was able to score with the Lady Cougars up 4-0 going into the sixth inning.
Julianna Franklin gave up no hits from the second until the sixth inning when Augusta finally got on the scoreboard with a tripled down the left field line with their runner on second base making it all the way home. Despite getting one on the board, the efforts from the Jags were not enough as Columbus State dominated the game to win the series at home.
