Lady Cougars Fall Short in Game One Against North Georgia

CSU fell 4-1 on Friday afternoon

COLUMBUS, GA. – Columbus State University opened the series against North Georgia with a 4-1 loss on Friday afternoon in Dahlonega.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Cougars got on the board in the second. An opening walk followed by a single from Anna Waites landed two Cougars on base. Another walk loaded the bases as Avery Hays got hit by a pitch to bring in Columbus State's first run. CSU did not hold the lead for long as North Georgia responded with a solo home run to open the bottom half of the inning. 

The Nighthawks produced another run in the third inning after a ground out to second base brought in a runner on third base. In the sixth inning, UNG added two more runs for a 4-1 lead after producing three hits. An error at the plate from Nova Wright allowed the first runner to come home, followed by an RBI single. 

The Lady Cougars struggled at the plate as they were only able to produce two hits for the afternoon. Chloe Poss helped lead North Georgia with the win after she struck out ten Lady Cougars in seven innings.

  • UNG led with five hits as CSU could only produce two hits.
  • CSU had two errors for the afternoon while UNG had zero. 
  • The Lady Cougars left four runners stranded on base while UNG left two runners stranded. 
  • Julianna Franklin tossed for six innings with five hits, four runs, four strikeouts, and zero walks.
