Baseball Secures a 7-5 Win at Albany State

CSU moves to 17-15 on the season

ALBANY, Ga. – Columbus State University baseball traveled over to Albany, Georgia on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek matchup at Albany State.

The Cougars (17-15) garnered three runs in the first and fifth frames to help secure the win over the Golden Rams (17-17) in a tightly contested non-conference clash.

 Luke Miller opened with a double down the right field line to begin the first frame of play, leading Ian King to follow with a single to center field. Cayden Evans drove in Miller on a ground out for the first run score with Bryce Knox following Cole Eison's two-out single with an RBI double for a 2-0 advantage. A double from Warrick Wilmot scored Knox to give CSU the 3-0 advantage in the first inning.

The Golden Rams would go on to respond in the bottom of the third inning, leveling the game with four hits, a sacrifice fly and an RBI walk.

Columbus State answered in the top of the fifth inning with three hits and taking advantage of an ASU error as well. The Cougars reclaimed a three-run lead off an RBI double from Eison and two runs brought in on the error to lead 6-3. CSU followed up with a sacrifice flyout from Wilmot to move the advantage to 7-3.

Albany State would go down swinging in the ninth inning, scoring two additional runs to the cut the deficit in half. The Golden Rams scored on a passed ball and an RBI single to make the final score 7-5 in favor of Columbus State.

  • Both Eison and Wilmot notched two hits apiece while Wilmot drove in a pair and Eison crossed the plate twice.

  • Sawyer Wilson earned the win after pitching 2.1 innings of relief, allowing just one hit on seven at-bats.
  • Peyton Burton garnered his fourth save of the season, tossing the final inning and striking out two batters in the process.
