COLUMBUS - The Columbus State Cougars softball team won 6-5 in game one of three in their series against Peach Belt Conference opponent Georgia Southwestern on Friday. The Cougars are now 30-24 (9-13 PBC) and Georgia Southwestern are now 24-23 (8-14 PBC).
Anna Waites singled through the left side that advanced
Izzy Ripatti to second,
Holly Lynn advanced to third, and
Nova Wright scored on the play that put the Cougars up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
The Cougars scored runs in every inning but the second and the fifth. After the Hurricanes tied the game in the seventh inning the Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning.
Abrianna Green singled to catcher on a bunt.
Ella Hopper reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop Waites advanced to second Green advanced to third and scored on the error to win 6-5.
Julianna Franklin pitched complete game number twenty-one on the year and picked up her sixteenth victory of the season. Franklin had six strikeouts, gave up nine hits, three walks, and five runs in the win. Despite giving up three runs on three hits in the top of the seventh inning that tied the game 5-5.
