COLUMBUS – No. 10 Columbus State advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Tournament semifinals with a commanding 4-0 victory over Lander University in Friday's quarterfinal at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
The third-seeded Cougars (14-5) secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions.
Isadora Oliveira and
Laura Pesickova defeated Evelyn Altmaier and Bailee Martin 6-3 on court two, followed by
Nikoline Gullacksen and
Mariana Ramirez clinching the point with a 6-4 win over Maria Jose Zarza and Mille Elsborg at the top spot. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished with the score tied at 4-4.
In singles play, Gullacksen dominated Elsborg 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 to give CSU a 2-0 lead.
Sofia Lauretti extended the advantage with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Martin at No. 4. Ramirez then secured the match for the Cougars, defeating Altmaier 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. The remaining singles matches were unfinished.
