Columbus State Sweeps Claflin in Doubleheader to Close Out Regular Season

Cougars outscore Panthers 26–2 across two dominant road victories

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Columbus State University baseball rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Claflin University on Saturday at Historic Mirmow Field, winning the first game 15-0 in seven innings before completing the series with an 11-1 victory.

The Cougars improved to 27-20 overall and 17-10 in Peach Belt Conference play.

Game 1: Columbus State 15, Claflin 0 (7 innings)

Columbus State wasted no time taking control, scoring in every inning of a 15-0 rout that was shortened to seven innings by the run rule.

Eric Moore (3-3) was dominant on the mound for the Cougars, tossing a complete-game, two-hit shutout while striking out six and walking none. Offensively, CSU collected 14 hits and capitalized on six Claflin errors.

Cole Eison launched a solo home run in the third inning, while Cayden Evans delivered a two-run double in the fourth. Luke Miller added an RBI single in the second inning and another RBI hit in the seventh.

Columbus State built an early 6-0 lead after three innings and kept piling on, scoring three runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one final run in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Game 2: Columbus State 11, Claflin 1

In the series finale, Columbus State again jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an 11-1 victory to complete the weekend sweep.

The Cougars scored twice in the first inning, aided by a Claflin throwing error, and added three more runs in the third. Michael Cruz drew a bases-loaded walk, and Sebastian Collender followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-0.

Eison continued his hot day at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with a triple, a double and multiple RBIs. Evans also chipped in with multiple hits and runs scored.

Ryan Suppa (4-4) earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings while striking out five. The only run he surrendered came in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Claflin's Jabari Meeks.

The Cougars tacked on six runs over the middle innings to pull away, ensuring a comfortable finish.
