COLUMBUS – Columbus State women's tennis resumed Peach Belt Conference action on Thursday afternoon, playing host to Georgia Southwestern at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
The 14th-ranked Lady Cougars (10-4, 2-0 PBC) defeated the Hurricanes (3-6, 0-3 PBC) with ease in the 7-0 home victory.
Columbus State opened by sweeping doubles play for the first team point of the match. Isadora Oliveira and Laura Pesickova took #1 doubles with a 6-1 victory followed by a 6-0 win at #2 doubles from Mariana Ramirez and Majra Djokic. Lastly, Annie Adams and Maria Markosov took a 6-1 win at #3 doubles.
As for singles play, all six matches went just two sets each. Ramirez went 6-4, 6-0 at the leading position while Sofia Lauretti followed with a pair of 6-0 wins in the second singles line. Oliveira went 6-0 in both sets at #3 singles while Djokic took wins of 6-2 and 6-1at the #4 singles position. Rounding out singles play was Markosov's wins of 6-3 and 6-2 at #5 singles in addition to Adam's clean 6-0 sweep of #6 singles.
