#14 Women’s Tennis Upsets #3 Flagler in St. Augustine

CSU takes a 4-3 win over the Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – No. 14-ranked Columbus State women's tennis traveled to the Sunshine State for a Peach Belt Conference duel at third-ranked Flagler (Fla.) on Sunday at the Pollard Tennis Center in St. Augustine.

The Lady Cougars (11-4, 3-0 PBC) upset the Saints (15-3, 3-1 PBC) with a 4-3 victory on the road as Isadora Oliveira and Sofia Lauretti helped secure three-set victories from the #4 and #5 lines, respectively.

Columbus State opened with the doubles point, capturing the first and third positions. The 17th-ranked duo of Nikoline Gullacksen and Mariana Ramirez took first doubles line with a 6-3 win for a 10-3 overall record. Annie Adams and Majra Djokic secured the third position with a 6-3 win as well for their first win together. As for the second position in doubles play, Oliveira and Laura Pesickova were left unfinished at 5-5.

Singles play began with the sixth position going to the Saints for a level match as Djokic fell 6-1 and 6-3. Columbus State moved to a 2-1 lead with Ramirez capturing the second line of singles with wins of 6-2 and 6-4 to move her record to 14-5 in singles play.

Gullacksen fell at the number one position, 7-5 and 6-1 to move the eighth-ranked individual to 14-4 in singles action. With the match tied at 2-2, Flagler would go on to take a 3-2 lead after the Pesickova fell 6-2 and 7-5 in the third line. Fortunately, the Lady Cougars would respond with clutch three-set performances at number four and number five singles to win the match 4-3.

Oliveira took the first set 6-2 in the fourth line, falling 6-2 in the second set before bouncing back with a 6-1 in the third set level the match at 3-3. Oliveira is now 13-4 on the season, winning her last five singles matches. Lauretti clutched the fifth position for the 4-3 team victory with wins of 6-3 and 6-2 after falling 6-3 in the opening frame. Lauretti is riding a four-match wave of wins in singles action, holding an 11-1 record.
