CLEMSON, S.C. – The ninth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team made quick work of No. 42 Lees-McRae College, rolling to a 4-0 sweep on Monday in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in Clemson, S.C.
Columbus State (16-6) jumped out to an early lead over the Bobcats (18-6) with a clean sweep in doubles play. The pairing of
Isadora Oliveira and
Laura Pesickova dominated on court two with 6-1 win to open play.
Annie Adams and
Majra Djokic notched a 6-3 victory on court three and
Nikoline Gullacksen and
Mariana Ramirez finished with a 6-2 win at the top spot for the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Cougars continued their dominance in singles action, needing just three matches to secure the team win.
Sofia Lauretti led the way with a swift 6-0, 6-3 rout over Anita Ivanova at the fourth line of singles for the two-point edge. Oliveira boosted the CSU advantage to 3-0 in the fifth spot, downing Alexa Mazzei 6-2, 6-2. Pesickova clinched the match at the third position, handling Lina Ngassi Saqout in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
With the match clinched, play was halted on courts one, two, and six.
