Box Score COLUMBUS – Despite a commanding offensive effort, the Columbus State University Women's Soccer team dropped a narrow 2–1 decision to Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday afternoon at Walden Soccer Complex.
The Lady Cougars (2–3–0) outshot the Bears 20–5 and controlled much of the match, but Lenoir-Rhyne (4–1–0) capitalized on its chances to secure the road win.
The Bears struck early, scoring just two minutes into the match as Lucia Hidalgo buried an unassisted finish to give Lenoir-Rhyne a 1–0 advantage. CSU responded with relentless pressure, firing 11 shots in the opening half and forcing four saves from goalkeeper Riley Miller, but went into halftime trailing by one.
The Bears doubled their lead when Savannah Hughes connected on a pass from Isabella Zicchinolfi to make it 2–0. Columbus State wasted no time answering back.
Shania Wegesend powered home her third goal of the season to pull the Lady Cougars within one.
CSU continued to press in the closing stages, generating nine second-half shots and seven total shots on goal for the match. However, Miller stood tall in the net, finishing with six saves to secure the win for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Wegesend led the charge offensively with three attempts and the lone goal, while
Michelle Medina (3 shots) and
Abigail Akerson (4 shots) kept constant pressure on the Bears' back line.
