ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Columbus State University Men's Basketball team dropped a hard-fought 67-61 decision to Flagler College Saturday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference action inside the Flagler Gymnasium.
Columbus State trailed 33-27 at the break before matching Flagler point-for-point in the second half. The Cougars cut into the deficit down the stretch but were unable to overcome a late surge fueled by Flagler's efficiency at the free-throw line.
Marlon Smith led all scorers with 24 points while pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double in a complete performance and knocked down three three-pointers.
Lee Langstaff II followed with 12 points and four rebounds on 4-of-7 shooting, while
Jordan Mitchell added nine points and three steals.
The Cougars shot 37.9 percent from the field, were limited to 20.8 percent from three-point range, finished with a 35-41 rebounding deficit, but forced 14 turnovers and scored 17 points off those miscues to stay within striking distance.
Columbus State is now 14-7 overall, and 8-5 in the Peach Belt, and will continue Peach Belt Conference action Wednesday, February 4, traveling to Augusta, Ga., to face Augusta University inside Christenberry Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
