COLUMBUS – Columbus State women's basketball secured the Peach Belt Regular Season title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament Wednesday night, defeating USCA 67-57 for the squad's 10
th straight win.
The win was the Cougars 22
nd on the season, and the championship is Columbus State's 200
th.
After trailing by two at halftime, the Cougars retook the lead midway through the third quarter with a 21-11 scoring advantage over the Pacers. USCA answered with 22 points in the third, but the Cougars and held off a late Pacer attack to secure the home win.
Letiya Reeves led the way for the home squad, scoring 17 points, as the senior went 1-for-12 from the charity stripe. The win was the 23rd double figure game this season for Reeves.
Nekaya Williams added 15 points and three assists, her ninth game in double figures this season.
The Cougars held the advantage in rebounds (48 to 37) and free throw attempts (29 to 21), but made just three three-pointers, compared to six from the Pacers.
USCA was led by Mackenna Nix with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
The Cougars return to action Wednesday, Feb. 25, traveling to Middle Georgia for the final road game of the regular season.
