COLUMBUS — The Columbus State University Women's Basketball team closed the regular season dominantly Sunday afternoon, defeating Georgia Southwestern State University, 84–60, on Senior Day inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. Senior Day provided both a celebration and a statement performance, one that sends Columbus State into tournament play with confidence and momentum.
Columbus State established its rhythm early, shooting 60.0 percent in the first quarter to build a double-digit lead. The Lady Cougars maintained control throughout the afternoon, holding Georgia Southwestern to 39.7 percent shooting and forcing 27 turnovers, which they converted into 36 points.
The defensive pressure and transition offense proved decisive, as Columbus State outscored the Hurricanes 32-8 in fast-break points and 40–28 in the paint.
The Lady Cougars showcased impressive balance with five players scoring in double figures, led by
Simone Lett's 13 points and eight rebounds.
Nekaya Williams added 12 points, going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line while recording four steals, and
Alana Hankerson provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Letiya Reeves contributed 11 points along with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while
Aaliyah Ferrell delivered an efficient 10-point performance on a flawless 4-of-4 shooting effort. Columbus State's depth was on full display throughout the afternoon, as the bench accounted for 32 points and the team finished with 13 steals and eight blocked shots.
With the regular season complete, Columbus State now turns its attention to postseason play. The Lady Cougars will host the Quarterfinal Round of the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m. inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
