COLUMBUS — Columbus State University Women's Track & Field standout
Liza Varnum has been named the Columbus State Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Chick-fil-A on Macon Road and Manchester Expressway, following a series of strong performances across multiple events during recent competition.
A junior from Headland, Alabama, Varnum delivered a well-rounded effort at the Emory Spring Break Classic (March 20–21), highlighted by a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.96. She also contributed to Columbus State's relay success, helping the Cougars to a seventh-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (4:06.23) and an eighth-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay (1:48.99). Additionally, she competed in the 100-meter hurdles, placing ninth with a time of 15.44.
Her versatility and consistency across hurdle, relay, and field events have made her a key contributor for the Cougars throughout the outdoor season.
A graduate of Headland High School, Varnum is majoring in History at Columbus State. When asked about her favorite quote, she shared: "Meanwhile, the world goes on, the wild geese return home."
