AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Columbus State University Softball team dropped the opening game of its Peach Belt Conference series, falling 5-0 to Augusta University on Friday at Jaguar Field. The Cougars move to 18-12 overall and 7-3 in Peach Belt play, while Augusta improves to 16-14 overall and 7-3 in the Peach Belt.
Columbus State was limited to four hits in the contest, with
Anna Waites leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double.
Aubree Ussery and
Mary-Catherine Sorrell each added a hit, while the Cougars drew three walks but were unable to capitalize offensively, leaving eight runners on base.
In the circle,
Khloe Shears (10-4) took the loss for Columbus State, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits over 5.0 innings while striking out four.
Hanna Deschambault worked one inning in relief, surrendering one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Columbus State returns to action Saturday, March 28, with a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Augusta University at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Jaguar Field in Augusta, Ga., to close out the series.
