COLUMBUS — Freshman guard
Alana Hankerson of the Columbus State University Women's Basketball team has been named the Columbus State Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Chick-fil-A on Macon Road and Manchester Expressway, following her standout performances over the past week.
Over her last two games, Hankerson averaged 11.5 points while shooting 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from three-point range in 46 total minutes of action. She filled the stat sheet with six assists, seven steals, and three blocks, all while committing zero turnovers.
The Charlotte, N.C. native has made an immediate impact in her freshman campaign, providing energy and versatility on both ends of the floor. A graduate of Charlotte Country Day, Hankerson is majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish.
When asked, "What is one thing sports have taught you about life?" Hankerson reflected on the lessons learned through competition.
"Sports has taught me how to battle adversity and roll with the punches," she said. "Things are not always going to go as planned, but it is about adapting and moving forward."
The Columbus State Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week award recognizes outstanding athletic performance, academic achievement, and leadership, and is sponsored by Chick-fil-A on Macon Road and Manchester Expressway.
