ALBANY, Ga. — The Columbus State University men's track & field team delivered a strong and balanced performance to place second overall at the Annual Alice Coachman Invitational, hosted by Albany State University.
The Cougars showcased depth across distance, hurdles, sprints, and field events, highlighted by multiple event victories and podium finishes.
Standout performances led Columbus State in the distance events, as senior
Owen Hartshorn captured the 1,500 meters title with a time of 4:06.90, earning 10 team points. Hartshorn also added a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters (1:57.12) to contribute to the team score. In the 5,000 meters, junior
Daniel Leonard claimed first place with a time of 17:38.57, while
Logan Terwilliger secured a third-place finish (18:21.25), combining for 16 points in the event.
The Cougars also found success in the field events, highlighted by a dominant showing in the pole vault. Sophomore
Camerin Rigdon won the event with a clearance of 4.31 meters, while
Corbin Hunzeker finished second (3.86m) and Samuel Washburn placed third (3.11m), giving Columbus State a strong 1-2-3 finish. In the throws, freshman Trenten Walker-Harmon captured the discus title with a mark of 46.14 meters, while junior
Raylene Magby added a runner-up finish in the shot put (13.92m) and a third-place finish in the javelin (42.93m).
In the horizontal jumps, freshman
Amari Adams delivered a standout performance with a second-place finish in the long jump (6.93m), while Jalen Willis added points with a seventh-place finish (6.56m). The Cougars also picked up points in the high jump, led by
Jamir Bradley, who placed fourth with a clearance of 1.90 meters.
On the track, Columbus State continued to produce across multiple events. Freshman
Almar Clarke led the sprint group with a sixth-place finish in both the 100 meters (10.67) and 200 meters (21.92), earning points in each event. In the 400 meters, Samuel Washburn recorded a seventh-place finish (50.85).
The Cougars were especially strong in the hurdles, as junior
Zaccharius Brown placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.65), while
Tristen Cole added a fifth-place finish (56.25). Freshman
Zion Atkinson contributed with an eighth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.60).
Columbus State also scored in the relays, finishing fourth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.06.
Columbus State returns to action on Friday, April 17, as the Cougars travel to Atlanta, Ga., to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility.
