CARROLLTON, Ga. — The Columbus State University men's track & field team turned in a strong all-around performance to finish seventh overall at the University of West Georgia Legends Invitational, highlighted by multiple event victories, top-five finishes, and key point-scoring efforts across sprints, distance, hurdles, and field events.
Columbus State was led in the field events by a dominant showing from its throwing and pole vault groups. Freshman Trenten Walker-Harmon captured the discus title with a mark of 43.45 meters, earning 10 team points, while sophomore Jaylan Ransom added a victory in the hammer throw at 46.33 meters. Ransom also contributed a third-place finish in the discus (40.85m), adding valuable points for the Cougars.
In the pole vault, Nathan Walker delivered a first-place finish, clearing 4.65 meters (15'3"), while
Camerin Rigdon placed fourth (4.20m) and
Drake Dalton added a seventh-place effort (4.05m), giving Columbus State a strong scoring presence in the event.
On the track, the Cougars showcased depth in the sprint and middle-distance events. Dakarai Walker led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters (22.01) and added a ninth-place showing in the 400 meters (49.25). Teammate
Zaccharius Brown also posted a top-15 finish in the 400 meters (49.90), while
Malik Hall recorded a 15th-place finish in the 200 meters (22.45).
In the 100 meters,
Braylon Ball paced the Cougars with a 10th-place finish (10.99), followed closely by Arthur Serrano (13th, 11.08) and
Xavier Harper (18th, 11.23), highlighting the team's sprint depth.
The distance group produced strong results, led by senior
Owen Hartshorn, who placed fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:01.03 and also finished eighth in the 800 meters (1:56.21).
Blake Lewis followed with a 10th-place finish in the 800 meters (1:56.49) and ninth in the 1500 meters (4:06.63).
Columbus State also found success in the hurdles, as Ian Lockett placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.67) and ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.83). Aaryn Sanders added a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (57.15), contributing additional team points.
In the jumps, Sanders recorded an 11th-place finish in the triple jump (12.79m), while
Godwin Fini and
Reece Pasley each posted marks of 5.75 meters in the long jump.
The Cougars added another key scoring performance in the shot put, where
Raylene Magby placed third with a throw of 14.19 meters, rounding out a productive day in the field events.
Columbus State returns to action on Saturday, April 11, traveling to Albany, Georgia, to compete in the Alice Coachman Invitational at Hampton Smith Fields at the Robert Cross Track & Field Complex.
